8 people died as a bus carrying pilgrims to Vaishno Devi crashed into the Jammu Gorge

The incident occurred near the Jajjar Kotli area, approximately 15 km from its intended destination of Katra, on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

Srinagar:- Tragically, eight individuals died when a bus transporting pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi shrine skidded off a bridge and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir. 

According to initial reports, 16 passengers sustained injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital, some in critical condition.

The ill-fated bus was en route from Amritsar when the tragic incident unfolded on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, near the Jajjar Kotli area, which was approximately 15 km away from its intended destination of Katra in the Reasi district.

Katra serves as the base camp for pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi.

Senior Superintendent of Police Chandan Kohli confirmed the unfortunate loss of eight lives, and ongoing rescue operations are underway.

The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at the Government Medical College in Jammu.
