3 Army Officers and 13 Soldiers are killed in Sikkim after an army truck falls into a gorge

Four hurt soldiers were airlifted as soon as a rescue attempt was initiated.

According to a statement from the Army, the army truck that the soldiers were riding in plunged down a gorge in Sikkim on Friday, killing sixteen soldiers, three of them were officials.

According to the Army, the truck was a part of a convoy of three vehicles that had departed Chatten in the morning for Thangu.

“En route at Zema, the vehicle skidded down a steep slope while negotiating a sharp turn. A rescue mission was immediately launched, and four injured soldiers have been air evacuated,” the Army stated.

The Army also stated that it is supporting grieving families at this difficult time.

“Deeply pained by the loss of lives of the Indian Army personnel due to a road accident in North Sikkim. The nation is deeply grateful for its service and commitment. My condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of injured people,” Rajnath Singh, the defense minister, tweeted.
