Tejashwi Yadav Allegedly Hiding Truth About Bihar Bridge Collapse: BJP

BJP Criticizes RJD Leader for Claiming Experts Identified Numerous Structural Issues in the Bridge

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar has strongly criticized Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, accusing him of deliberately concealing the truth regarding the collapse of an under-construction bridge in the state.

BJP strongly condemned the statement made by RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, who claimed that experts had identified “numerous structural defects” in the bridge. The bridge was intended to connect Khagaria district with Bhagalpur over the Ganga River.

“How did the government allow the construction work to continue when experts who inspected the bridge had already informed the government that there were serious structural defects?” The department should have stopped it right away.” Mr. Nabin further alleged that the deputy chief minister “did not bother to inform the House about the status of the construction work” when the issue was discussed in the state legislature during the budget session in March of this year.

Tejashwi Yadav Statement :- Serious Defects Found: Tejashwi Yadav Raises Concerns Over Bihar Bridge

“He (Mr. Yadav) never stated that construction activity had ceased. Why didn’t the department take action against the wrongdoing of officials or the contractor involved in the bridge’s construction after experts’ advice last year? The state government has attempted to shield the accused. This grand coalition administration is unconcerned with Bihar’s growth…” Neither the chief minister nor the deputy chief minister has time for the state,” added the BJP leader.

The 3.16-kilometer bridge, which has been under construction since 2014, fell twice in 14 months, once on the Sultanganj side of Bhagalpur in April 2022 and again on the Khagaria side on Sunday evening. Images of the Khagaria bridge collapse prompted Mr. Yadav to hold a press conference on Sunday evening. A few videos also got viral.

Earlier Collapse

“As you may recall, a portion of this bridge collapsed on April 30th of last year.” Following that, we invited IIT-Roorkee, which is well-known for its construction skills, to perform research. It has yet to provide a final assessment, but specialists who analyzed the construction told us there were severe flaws,” Mr. Yadav said during a press conference held hours after the bridge collapsed on Sunday.

Tejashwi Yadav also stated that “many structural defects” had been identified by specialists, and that “we have already pulled down many portions that have been flagged as particularly vulnerable.” Today’s (Sunday) occurrence confirmed our greatest fears.”

The tragedy sparked a popular outcry, forcing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to commission an investigation with the goal of punishing those responsible for the bridge collapse.

When the BJP was in control of the state last year, a piece of this bridge collapsed during a thunderstorm.

“It was a widely reported incident, and I strongly raised it in my capacity as Leader of the Opposition at the time.” “When we came to power, we ordered an inquiry and sought the expert opinion,” Mr. Yadav added, in an apparent rebuttal to the BJP, which is currently in opposition and demanded the CM’s resignation over the issue.

On Sunday, at least 30 slabs on three pillars of the four-lane Sultanganj-Aguani Ghat bridge caved down and sank into the river.

According to the district government, there were no injuries in the incident.

The bridge was believed to have cost Rs. 1,700 crore.

The contract for the bridge’s construction was awarded to a Haryana-based company, which the BJP is now suing.

The bridge would be the sixth on the Ganga River, connecting northern Bihar to the south and shortening travel times to Sultanagnj, Khagaria, Saharsa, Madhepura, and Supaul.
