Adipurush: Box Office Record-Breaker

Despite facing negative word-of-mouth, Adipurush has managed to break several records at the box office, even though it may have experienced a decline in performance on Monday.

Adipurush has received objections and criticism for its dialogues and VFX. Still, Om Raut’s delivery of Ramayana has managed to capitalize on its momentum and break a few box office records.

Adipurush, an epic adventure film, features Prabhas as Raghav (based on Ram), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (based on Sita), and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (based on Ravana). Produced by T-Series and UV Creations, the movie was released on June 16 in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil.

Highest worldwide opening for a pan-Indian film

On its opening day, Adipurush grossed ₹140 crores worldwide, and the following day it added another ₹100 crores to its global earnings, resulting in a two-day collection of ₹240 crores. This achievement surpassed the previous record set by Pathaan. This pan-India film earned ₹219 crore during its initial two days of release in January.

Third biggest Hindi opening

In the domestic market, the Hindi version of Adipurush had an opening of ₹37.25 crore, securing the third-highest box office opening for a pan-India film. It follows Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (₹57 crores) and Yash-starrer KGF: Chapter 2 (₹54 crores). Adipurush surpassed the opening-day collection of Ayan Mukerji’s supernatural drama Brahmastra (₹36 crores), featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Biggest drop on Monday

Following the initial momentum and the rush of advance bookings, Adipurush has experienced a significant decline in its box office performance, particularly on Monday, due to predominantly negative word-of-mouth. This downfall is notably significant considering the post-pandemic phase of moviegoing. The film’s domestic earnings across all languages have now reached only ₹20 crores, in contrast to the ₹86 crores, ₹65 crores, and ₹69 crores it earned on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively.
