TikTok and Bumble have Joined a Platform to Tackle “REVENGE PORN.”

As industry partners of StopNCII.org, a website that aids users in addressing “revenge porn,” Bumble, an online dating service, and TikTok, a platform for short videos, have joined Facebook and Instagram. The StopNCII.org “hashes” will now be sent to the participating businesses, making it simpler to remove non-consensual intimate photographs.

Workings of StopNCII.org

If someone feels threatened by the misuse of their intimate photographs, they can make hashes or “digital fingerprints” of those images and send them to StopNCII.org. Using these hashes, which are strings of letters and numbers, prevents the photographs from ever leaving the consumers’ devices.

The participating parties receive access to the hashes entered into the platform. If an image with a relevant hash is submitted, it will be sent to the participating platform’s moderation staff for review if it complies with their policy criteria. The image will then be erased and prevented from being shared further if it fits the requirements for an intimate photograph.

Issues with StopNCII.org
The photographs in question must meet the criteria of having been taken in an intimate situation to be considered for removal. This includes pictures and films of the naked victim exposing their genitalia, having intercourse, or being indecently exposed while wearing underpants.

Additionally, because this service is only available to adults over the age of 18, victims of child pornography are unable to access it. Victims of child sexual abuse must cooperate with non-governmental organizations that are legally permitted to do so when dealing with the material.
