The shootings occurred a day after ten people were killed at a ballroom dancing club in the Los Angeles region during Lunar New Year celebrations.
Separate shooting events reported in three American cities on Tuesday killed at least 11 people and injured many more. According to local media accounts, the newest shootings occurred in the California community of Half Moon Bay, where seven people were killed. Four were dead on the farm, and three were killed at the trucking company on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a community about 30 miles (48 kilometres) south of San Francisco.
According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect in the incident reported along Highway 92 is in custody, and there is no current threat to the community.
The Sheriff’s Office had previously stated that it was “responding to a shooting incident involving many victims in the vicinity of HWY 92 and the HMB City boundaries.”
“The suspect has been apprehended. “At this moment, there is no ongoing threat to the community,” it stated.
The shooting was the sixth mass shooting in the United States this year, following the death of 11 people late Saturday at a ballroom dancing facility in Southern California.
Earlier on Monday, two students were murdered, and an adult employee was injured in what authorities described as a targeted shooting at a Des Moines school committed to supporting at-risk youth, according to the Associated Press. The incident occurred during a Des Moines school district-affiliated instructional program called Starts Right Here. Officers stopped a car matching witnesses’ descriptions approximately 20 minutes after the incident and arrested three suspects, according to police.
“We are horrified to learn of another act of gun violence, especially one that hits an organization that works directly with some of our students. “We are currently waiting for additional information, but our hearts go out to any victims of this incident, as well as their families and friends,” the Des Moines school system stated in a statement.
Meanwhile, authorities said two people were killed, and three others were gravely injured in a home invasion shooting in a Chicago apartment Monday afternoon. According to authorities, several suspects fled the area and were not arrested.
“It does not appear to be a random act,” stated Deputy Police Chief Sean Loughran at a news conference.
