Snowfall and Rainfall in Kashmir Announce the Arrival of Early Winter

Many regions of Kashmir got heavy snowfall, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gurez, and Karnah, while the Zabarwan mountain range in Srinagar also received signs of precipitation.

Kashmir: Snowfall in upper Kashmir, including major tourist spots such as Gulmarg and Sonamarg, combined with showers in the lowlands, brought wintry conditions to the valley sooner than typical, officials said on Thursday.

“There was significant snowfall in many areas of Kashmir, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gurez, and Karnah, during the intervening night,” the officials said.

According to officials, more than two inches of snow had collected in the Gulmarg basin, with heavier snowfall in the valley’s higher elevations.

They said that traces of snowfall fell over the city’s Zabarwan mountain range throughout the night.

Since the early hours of Thursday, Srinagar and other regions of the valley have experienced light rainfall, lowering the temperature by several degrees.

People have begun to wear winter clothing such as sweaters and heavy coats sooner than usual.

The early snowfall has cheered tourists who have come here to avoid the pollution created by Diwali crackers elsewhere in the country.

However, apple producers in south Kashmir are concerned that heavy snowfall before December will not only ruin this year’s crop but also cause tree damage.

The weatherman predicts that circumstances will improve later in the day and that the week will be dry.
